From the co-writer of Borat comes Robots, a new comedy that Emma Roberts and Jack Whitehall are to take the lead roles in.

Thus far, stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall has tackled a few film roles, notably including The Bad Education Movie and the upcoming Jungle Cruise opposite Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson. Now, though, we learn that he’s going to co-headline a new blend of science fiction and comedy with the movie Robots.

This one sees him alongside Emma Roberts in the story of a what’s described as a ‘womaniser and a gold digger’ (Whitehall the former, Roberts the latter), who try and trick people into having a relationship with a not very legal robot double of themselves. The two of them end up scamming each other, and stuff happens.

The movie is being directed by Ant Hines (who co-wrote the likes of Borat and Bruno), and he’s also penning the script along with Casper Christensen. The late Robert Sheckley’s short story is the foundation of the project.

No word yet on when production is likely to begin, or a release date. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
