Ennio Morricone, the composer of some of cinema’s most iconic film scores, has passed away his family have announced.

Some horrible news to start the week, as it’s been confirmed that the legendary film composer Ennio Morricone has died. He was 91 years old.

His family have announced his death, the result of complications from a fall.

His legacy is simply astonishing. Across the hundreds of scores and classic works he composed in his lifetime are many all-time classics. His work with Sergio Leone on the Spaghetti Westerns and Once Upon A Time In The West are simply exceptional pieces of music, and likewise his work across films as varied as The Mission, The Untouchables, Days Of Heaven, Wolf and The Hateful Eight is quite something.

He packed a lot into his life, and was touring the world up until a year or two back. His loss will be keenly felt by cinema, but his music is going to live on for a very, very long time.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family. Rest in peace.
