Ethan Hawke joins the cast of Knives Out 2

The veteran actor Ethan Hawke has joined the hugely-impressive ensemble for Rian Johnson’s mystery sequel.

Apparently, Rian Johnson and company have so many stars in the ensemble cast for Knives Out 2 that they’re not bothering to even announce them now. They’ve been spoiling us a bit over the last couple of months, drip-feeding us casting announcements for the planned Knives Out sequel day by day. It was a bit like working your way through an advent calendar, apart from the fact that it wasn’t Christmas and you can’t fit actors inside advent calendars.

Now though, in a display of supreme confidence, Johnson isn’t even announcing the new additions to the cast, meaning that Ethan Hawke’s involvement has only been revealed thanks to set photos.

The actor joins what’s already a hugely fun ensemble, including the return of Daniel Craig as sleuth Benoit Blanc, alongside Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn and Jessica Henwick.

The film is now shooting in Greece and will head to Netflix, who paid a reported $469m for the privilege of two Knives Out sequels.

According to reports, the ‘only contingencies of the deal were that Craig must star in the sequels and that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie, which was in the $40 million range.’ Hawke is currently also working on the Moon Knight series for Marvel Studios and is sure to add some more class into what we imagine is already a very fun shoot. We’ll bring you more news on Knives Out 2 as we hear it.
