The big screen take on the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will now be with us a few months later than planned, in February 2021.

As release dates continue to shuffle ahead of cinemas reopening this July, another much-anticipated film has found itself moved to a 2021 release.

The big screen take on the award-winning musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was set to be one of the highest profile British films of the year. Its profile is set to be no lower going forward, just that we won’t now be seeing it until early 2021.

The film has been set for release this coming October, but the Disney-owned Fox has now dated the film for UK release on Friday 22nd January 2021. Not a huge delay, but a delay nonetheless.

The movie is being directed by Jonathan Butterell, with Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae penning the screenplay. The cast is led by Max Harwood, Richard E Grant, Sharon Horgan and Sarah Lancashire.

And for the minute, we’ll leave you with the official synopsis for the production…

Inspired by true events, Twentieth Century Studios’, New Regency’s and Film4’s “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” is the film adaptation of the hit musical. Jamie New is 16 and doesn’t quite fit in — instead of pursuing a “real” career he dreams of becoming a drag queen. Uncertain about his future, Jamie knows one thing for sure: he is going to be a sensation. Supported by his loving mom and his amazing friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

“Everybody’s Talking about Jamie” stars newcomer Max Harwood, Sarah Lancashire, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Ralph Ineson, Adeel Akhtar, Sam Bottomley, with Sharon Horgan and Richard E. Grant. The stage production’s director, Jonathan Butterell, makes his feature-film debut as director, with screenplay and lyrics by Tom MacRae, songs by Dan Gillespie Sells and a score composed by Sells and Anne Dudley. Mark Herbert, Peter Carlton and Arnon Milchan are producing, with Peter Balm, Niall Shamma, Jes Wilkins, Daniel Battsek, Ollie Madden, Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer and Natalie Lehmann serving as executive producers.
