A sizeable expansion of Shepperton Studios in the UK clears a big hurdle.

A major British production facility has been given the greenlight for an extensive expansion plan.

Shepperton Studios, that currently houses 14 stages, has been given the greenlight to add more, as well as fresh office space. It’s part of a £500m expansion plan that’s been given the now by its local council planning committee. The final decision to press ahead now goes to national government level, but it’s hard to see it not being rubber-stamped.

Part of the same company that also owns Pinewood, Shepperton Studios is located in Surrey, and has hosted recent productions such as Mary Poppins Returns, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again and Transformers: The Last Knight.

Across Pinewood and Shepperton, the plan is to attract more big American blockbusters to British shores.
