Film Stories wins at the AOP Digital Publishing Awards

At the Association For Online Publishing Awards in the UK last night, Film Stories took home a prize amidst some very tough competition.

Forgive me for a bit of a self-indulgent post, but this is a pretty big deal for a project such as Film Stories. Last night, the Association For Online Publishing (AOP) in the UK held its annual digital publishing awards. And, er, Film Stories won.

It was in the Best Podcast Strategy category, and Film Stories’ fellow nominees were rather excellent: Dennis Publishing, the Evening Standard, BBC History, The Telegraph and Verizon Media. It felt a bit David and Goliath when the nominations came in, and thus it was a very, very welcome surprise when the Film Stories name was read out.

I’m thus hugely appreciative and grateful for the recognition from the AOP. I’ve proudly called myself award-losing for a long time now given the number of gongs I’ve happily lost (the only time I’ve been associated with a win before you could comfortably call ‘bittersweet’, given how things were at the time). Thus, on behalf of the tiny team behind the Film Stories podcast, the magazines, the live events and this very website, a huge thank you. In particular, to all the people who have supported this project over the past two and a half years. Independent publishing is incredibly tough, and there’s no way it’d all have got this far without your support. And also, to the AOP, for the honour.

A special bottle of wine shall be procured from the Co-op in Halesowen to be consumed in celebration this evening. Thank you again to everyone for all your support. You’re the best.
