The greatly-delayed sequel to Top Gun edges closer, and a final trailer for Top Gun: Maverick duly emerges.

Heading into cinemas over the summer, and one of the season’s most anticipated releases, is the hugely-delayed Top Gun: Maverick. The new film stars Tom Cruise of course reprising the lead role, over 30 years after he last played him. Top Gun: Maverick will arrive two years later than planned but hey, when you’ve been waiting for a sequel since 1986, who’s really counting?

Also in the cast for the film are Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis and Ed Harris. The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski (reunited with Cruise following their initial project together, Oblivion). Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie have penned the screenplay. The final cut of the film, we understand, has been locked for some time too.

The film will see Cruise’s hotshot pilot, Pete  Mitchell return to Top Gun, but this time as an instructor rather than a graduate. The film releases on May 25th in cinemas here in the UK. And here’s that final trailer…
