Kelly Reichardt’s acclaimed First Cow gets a new poster and trailer ahead of its UK release date.

Declared a ‘masterpiece’ by The New York Times, ‘Dazzling’ by Time, Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow is finally making it’s way to UK fields, or should we say cinemas, via MUBI this May.

You’ve probably heard the films name over the last 2 years, it was a 2019 release in the states, but if you’re not sure of the plot we’ve got you covered.

‘Loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has travelled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune. Soon the two collaborate on a successful but precarious cake-making business, the longevity of which is reliant upon the participation of a wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow – the very first, and only, in the territory.’

Kelly Reichardt is known for her previous films Meek’s Cutoff and Wendy And Lucy and directed First Cow from a script she developed with Jonathan Raymond, based on his novel The Half-Life. it’s a simple and small film that leans into the natural setting and depicts rural America in the early 19th century in a unique and visionary way.

The film initially premiered at the Telluride Film Festival before screening at Locarno, New York and Berlin film festivals, winning Best Film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and being nominated for 3 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
