Revenge turns to romance in the British comedy Mr Malcolm’s List: here’s the trailer for the film.

It can sometimes feel like British period dramas are a dime a dozen, so when something a little bit different comes along, it has to stand out.

Seemingly full of the same anarchic spirit as 2018’s The Favourite, with the offbeat sensibility of 2019’s The History of David Copperfield, Mr Malcolm’s List follows the story of Julia Thistlewait, who is jilted by the eponymous Mr Malcolm, the most desirable bachelor in the land, on the grounds that she did not meet his list of arbitrary requirements for being his bride.

Far from being morose or maudlin, Julia decides to channel her anger into a revenge scheme. Planning to use the wiles of her cousin Selena, her Machiavellian scheme begins, but when Mr Malcolm and Selena become closer than expected, she begins to wonder whether this is still a well-executed hoax or something much more real.

Zawe Ashton, soon to be seen in 2023’s The Marvels, stars as Julia Thistlewait, while Sopé Dirisu is Mr Malcolm. Completing the ensemble are Freida Pinto as Selina and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Lord Cassidy.

Emma Holly Jones will be making her directorial debut with the film, and the screenplay has been penned by Suzanne Allain, based on her own novel.

It will be released on 1st July 2022. Watch the trailer below.
