Take a wild ride through the life and times of one of music’s true free spirits, as a new documentary about Frank Zappa gets closer.

Fresh from rocking the world himself, as one half of the incomparable Wyld Stallyns in the recent Bill & Ted Face the Music, Alex Winter has returned once more to the world of documentary film, this time to chart the extraordinary life and times of the uniquely-talented Frank Zappa.

Magnolia Pictures is releasing the film, that will hit VoD and cinemas in the US on November 27th. No word yet on a UK release date but we’d imagine it will be with us soon.

Winter enjoyed access to never-seen before archival footage, as well as interviews with many of the family and collaborators that knew the mercurial performer closely. Winter himself has called it ‘the most ambitious project I’ve ever worked on’ (and he’s already directed several compelling documentaries) and a look at the trailer confirms just how difficult it must have been to pull together the many disparate elements of a unique creative spark  like Zappa, whilst threading what Winter describes as a ‘multi-faceted narrative.’

For Zappa fans or those unfamiliar with his work, we’d recommend you check out the trailer below, ahead of the film’s launch.

More on a UK release when we have it.
