The first trailer for The Last Mercenary finds Van Damme can still fight – and it seems he can dance too, apparently.

Netflix has launched the trailer for Jean-Paul Belmondo’s  The Last Mercenary, an action comedy headed up by the mighty action cinema legend, Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film is set to release on July 30th, and charts the fortunes of an ageing mercenary who has to take on the mob to protect his son’s life.

The trailer is a fun watch, with Van Damme getting to show off some of those classic martial arts moves, as well as some of those dance floor grooves that we first saw in 1989’s Kickboxer.

The actor had this to say to Collider about starring in the upcoming project: “The Last Mercenary is an incredibly exciting project and allows me to take on a new genre, I’ve always been a fan of Jean-Paul Belmondo and I hope to take up the torch of action comedy in my own way. David Charhon’s script brings all these elements together in a very successful way — a beautiful story with emotion, a lot of action and a lot of humour. I’m also very happy to work alongside a new generation of talent such as Alban Ivanov, Assa Sylla, and Samir Decazza.”

You can check out the trailer below ahead of the film’s release at the end of next month. We’ll leave you with the official synopsis below…

Richard Brumère, aka “La Brume” (“The Mist”), a former French secret service special agent turned mercenary, is back in the saddle as the immunity he was granted 25 years earlier for his son Archibald is lifted. A mob operation threatens Archibald’s life. To save him, Richard will have to reach out to his old contacts, join forces with a bunch of reckless youngsters from the projects and an offbeat bureaucrat – but mostly find the courage to let Archibald know he’s his father.
