Political intrigue is the order of the day in this epic set in the Middles Ages – here’s the first trailer for Medieval.

Ever since Game Of Thrones made its way onto screens in 2011, with the production value of several feature films, expectations from the genre have never been higher. It also means that screenwriters are being asked to come up with different ways of telling a similar story.

That brings us to Medieval. It follows the true story of Jan Žižka, who doesn’t hesitate to follow orders from his king, even though the mission he receives – kidnapping an innocent woman who’s also the niece of the king of France – contradicts his personal views. Taking such an important member of the royal family hostage quickly brings on consequences, and Jan Žižka becomes the target of an entire army who is hellbent in exterminating him. And, to make things worse, the ruthless warrior starts developing a relationship with the woman he kidnapped, which will severely complicate his mission.

Ben Foster headlines the film as Zizka, alongside Sophie Lowe, Michael Caine, Til Schweiger, Roland Møller , Matthew Goode, and William Moseley.

The film is written and directed by Petr Jakl, from a story by Petr Jakl Sr and Marek Dobes.

It’s set to be released in the US on 9th September, with a UK release date yet to be announced. Watch the trailer below:
