Keanu Reeves and an assortment of assassins and antagonists are back to dole out even more balletic brutality in John Wick 4: here’s the first trailer.

By the fourth instalment, the formula for a John Wick film is firmly established. The titular character is wronged in some way, and beautifully choreographed carnage ensues. So far, this has equated to more than $500 million at the box office.

The last film, 2019’s Parabellum, left John Wick in a state of flux. Having wiped out most of his peers after going on the run, the fourth film will see him do battle across five countries – America, Japan, Jordan, Germany and France.

Keanu Reeves of course returns as the titular character, alongside franchise stalwarts Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne and Lance Reddick. The big draw for action fans is the introduction of martial arts superstars Donnie Yen, of Ip Man fame, and Scott Adkins to the cast – the trailer promises some spectacular bare knuckle encounters between them and Reeves. Also in the cast are Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamimer Anderson, Marko Zaror, Natalia Tena and Rina Sawayama

Chad Stahelski is back in the director’s chair, with his stunt team, 87Eleven, once again handling the fight choreography (incidentally, for anybody even remotely interested in action filmmaking, Scott Adkins conducted an in depth interview about action design and fight scenes with Stahelski for his series, Art of Action, which can be found on YouTube).

The screenplay has been co-written by Michael Finch and Shay Hatten.

John Wick 4 is due to be released in the UK on the 24th March 2023. Watch the trailer below…
