Wes Anderson’s latest film Asteroid City marks the first time he has worked with Focus Features in a decade.

Wes Anderson will be reuniting with Focus Features to distribute his next project, some ten years after they last worked together on Moonrise Kingdom. The film, which has shot in Spain and is currently in post-production, has been financed by Indian Paintbrush, a regular backer of Anderson’s films.

Unsurprisingly, the plot for Asteroid City sounds about as Wes Anderson as could be: the story follows ‘a fictional American desert town in and around 1955 and its Junior Stargazer convention, which brings together students and parents from across the country for scholarly competition, rest and recreation, comedy, drama, romance and more.’

Likewise, the film features a typically starry ensemble, with Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis and Stephen Park.

If there’s not enough talent there to pique your interest, the film will also feature appearances from Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, Jeff Goldblum and Rita Wilson.

Anderson’s last film, 2021’s The French Dispatch doubled its production budget throughout its box office run. That film was distributed by Searchlight Pictures (and is now on Disney+). We’ll let you know more about Asteroid City, including an expected release date when we hear it.
