A TV show about a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies has fallen at the pilot stage over in the US – more details here.

Over at Fox TV, a plan to make a TV show based around an attempt to recreate the classic 80s movie The Goonies has hit the buffers before it really had a chance to get going.

The idea of the show was that it’d follow a woman returning to her hometown to become a substitute teacher, having struggled in the big city. There, she would meet three students who are looking to become filmmakers, and between them all they’d embark on a project to make a shot-for-shot remake of the movie.

This one did get as far as having a pilot episode produced, although there’s not much chance we’ll get to see it. Greg Mottola (Adventureland, Paul) directed the pilot, that was executive produced in part by the director of the original film, Richard Donner.

Fox, having seen the pilot, then had to make the decision whether it wanted to order a full series of the show and the answer – as you’ve probably guessed – was in the negative.

It’s unlikely that the project will come back to life elsewhere, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
