The tense, single location thriller The Guilty will arrive next month on Netflix, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role.

Netflix continues to outlay cash on a range of interesting and diverse projects, and here’s one worth keeping an eye on. Around a year ago now, the streaming service announced it had acquired the rights to The Guilty, a single-location thriller that takes place over the course of a morning. Netflix reportedly shelled out $30m for the film.

Jake Gyllenhaal will star and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua will helm. The setup? ‘Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal), a cop demoted to the desk position awaiting a disciplinary hearing the next day, receives a terrifying phone call from a kidnapped woman. He must battle his internal demons in order to save her.’

Fuqua and Gyllenhaal have collaborated before on the excellent Southpaw and the film was written by True Detective scribe Nic Pizolatto. The Guilty is based on a Danish drama directed by Gustav Moller, that premiered in 2018 at Sundance. The remake will arrive on Netflix on October 1st, although the US are getting a limited theatrical run from September 24th but it’s unconfirmed as yet whether that will be happening in the UK.

In the meantime, you can catch the trailer below.
