To Catch A Thief is getting a Hollywood remake, and Gal Gadot is being lined up to star in the movie: more information on it here.

Fresh from playing a high-end thief in Netflix’s Red Notice, Gal Gadot will once more be entering the world of high-stakes theft in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief.

Whilst no director has yet been named, Eileen Jones is writing the script for the new film. Jones has previously done some work on TV, including the Lethal Weapon series, but most recently has been working on the action-centred Western Highwayman, starring Margot Robbie and Christina Hodson, for New Line.

The remake of To Catch A Thief, Hitchcock’s 1955 romantic drama that starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, has been in the works for a while now in Hollywood, but with Gadot’s (who is also set to play Cleopatra, as well as reprising her role as Wonder Woman,) name attached, and Paramount now behind it, the project may have picked up the momentum it needs to move forward. There’s no indication as to whether Gadot will be playing Kelly’s role, or playing the cat burglar portrayed by Grant in the original.

Generally, the Hitchcock remakes that tend to recreate the originals too closely tend to be the least successful. Ben Wheatley’s Rebecca and in particular, Gus Van Sant’s Psycho spring to mind. However, when filmmakers take the premise of a Hitchcock movie and experiment with it, things can often go pretty well, as we’ve seen with movies like Flightplan, A Perfect Murder or even Throw Momma From The Train. Which type of remake the new To Catch a Thief will be remains to be seen, but we’ll be watching keenly for more details, and we’ll let you know when we hear them.
