Gattaca heading to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK

The underappreciated 1997 sci-fi movie Gattaca is getting a physical 4K disc release in the UK – and it’s available to pre-order.

After a slow start to the year, the list of upcoming releases on the Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray format in the UK has started to plump out a little. One of the catalogue titles we’re most excited to see is Andrew Niccol’s underrated sci-fi movie, Gattaca.

Starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, the film also features Jude Law and Alan Arkin in the story of a future where a man finds himself categorised as a member of the underclass purely off the back of his genetics. Without giving anything away for those who haven’t seen it, let’s just say his ambitions require a little bit of science and some genetics work.

Originally released in 1997, the film was written and directed by Niccol, arriving the year before The Truman Show (that he also wrote, with Peter Weir directing). And whilst the critical response to Gattaca wasn’t ecstatic at the time, it’s a film whose reputation has enrichened over time – and rightly so.

No word yet if we’re getting new extra features on the 4K disc, but we do finally have a release date. It lands in the UK on March 22nd.
