Gemma Chan is set to appear both in Crazy Rich Asians 2, and a newly-announced spin-off movie project as well: more here.
Whilst plans are still afoot for a full sequel to the 2018 hit romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians, a number of issues have held that project up. There’s more on that – and the pay disputes and disparities involved – here.
The official sequel is still on the way, but now, so is a separate spin-off film centred on Gemma Chan’s character in the movie, Astrid Young Teo.
The thus-far unnamed spin-off film will take inspiration from Kevin Kwan’s source novel China Rich Girlfriend, which explores the relationship between Astrid and Charlie We (Harry Shum Jr). It’s being penned by Amy Wang, and Warner Bros is backing the movie.
Gemma Chan will be returning, as you might expect, but as of yet, we don’t have news of a director for the feature. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more about it though.
