George Clooney in talks to play Buck Rogers

The legendary hero of the 25th century will be making a return, it seems, with George Clooney in line to play the space-faring adventurer.

Buck Rogers is a swashbuckling science-fiction hero who has existed in one form or another for a century now. From the character’s origins in pulp stories to his emergence as comic strip star, movie theatre serial hero and the fondly-remembered 1979 TV show, Buck Rogers has happily managed to endure.

Now it seems like a whole new audience will get to experience the character’s daring exploits, with plans afoot to bring a TV series to fruition, with a film and anime series to follow if successful.

George Clooney (who has a couple of solid space-faring films under his belt already with Solaris and Gravity,) is on-board to executive produce but more interestingly, he’s also reportedly (according to The Hollywood Reporter) in talks to play Rogers as well.

Of equal excitement is the news that Brian K Vaughn will be writing the project. Although Vaughn does have some screen credits to his name (including TV series Under The Dome and Lost), he is more renowned for his work in the field of comic books where he has created some of the greatest stories of the 21st century, such as Saga and Y: The Last Man.

We’re certainly keen to see where this goes. Legendary Entertainment is financing the project and no director/showrunner has been named as yet.

Clooney‘s Midnight Sky, a sci-fi thriller he directed, starred in and produced, debuted on Netflix in December. We’ll bring you more news on this one as we hear it.
