Mad Max 5 is still a project George Miller will get to – but he’s about to make a different film first.

Comfortably one of the best blockbusters of the past decade has been director George Miller’s belated fourth entry in the Mad Max franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road. Around the time of the film’s release, Miller teased more entries in the series, but Fury Road has been engulfed in a dispute between him and Warner Bros that put a spanner in the metaphorical works.

Miller, in a new interview, has nonetheless confirmed that there’s still hope for another Mad Max film. But he’s got another movie he wants to make first.

He’ll be filming Three Thousand Years Of Longing next year, with production set to begin in Australia in March. Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba are leading the cast, and Miller is keeping details of the film close to his chest. That said, it’ll be some departure from Max Max, that much is known.

Once the film is complete, then he’ll hop onto the next Mad Max film, that he’s already working on too. He told Deadline that he’s in preparation on that film as well,
