Gerard Butler will be battling the fall of night in the latest entry in the Has Fallen series: more details here.

It has been announced that action stalwart Gerard Butler will be returning as Secret Service agent Mike Banning once more, in a fourth instalment of the popular Has Fallen franchise.

Deadline is reporting that Millennium Films will launch sales for the project, Night has Fallen, at the virtual American Film Market this week. Ric Roman Waugh, helmer of Olympus Has Fallen and the upcoming Greenland – also starring Butler – will direct.

Little is known about the plot thus far, although the film will shoot in Bulgaria sometime next year. It will have night in it too, we’re guessing. No word as yet if Morgan Freeman will return to reprise his role as The Leader of the Free World but you can bet that the plot will revolve around Mike Banning having to save America from the clutches of evil, whether foreign or domestic.

The Has Fallen franchise so far (can we get a better name for this series in the comments below, please?) has proved to be an especially profitable one, drawing over $500m from a combined production budget of under $200m. We suspect that when the film goes to sale this week, there’ll be no shortage of interested buyers. More news on this one as we have it.
