Fresh entries in the Ghostbusters and Venom sagas are on the way from Sony, it’s been officially announced.

Sony has announced a pair of follow-ups to sequels that scored the studios hits over the last year. The news came from the Las Vegas-based CinemaCon expo, where the boss of the studio- Tom Rothman – confirmed the projects.

Neither will come as a massive surprise.

Firstly, we’re getting Tom Hardy back as Eddie Brock and his alter ego in whatever Venom 3 turns out to be called. Given both movies in the series to date have helped themselves to over half a million apiece, this was pretty much expected.

Then, as had been teased during the promotion for last year’s fourth Ghostbusters film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a further adventure in that franchise is on the way too. It’s expected that the director of Afterlife, Jason Reitman, will be somewhere around the controls for the film. Of course, this will be the first film in the saga made since the sudden and tragic death of his father – and director of the first two films- Ivan Reitman, late last year.

Sony hasn’t announced release dates or personnel for either of the movies (the two Venom films to date have both had different directors, and the helmer of the second – Andy Serkis – is in the midst of his Animal Farm project). When we hear more, we’ll let you know.
