The latest Girls On Film ‘Isolation Pod’ brings together some superb guests to dissect the current state of movies.

The terrific Girls On Film podcast, hosted by film critic, writer and all-round excellent person Anna Smith, is usually recorded in front of an audience, attracting a range of guests each episode. In current times, that’s not been possible, but from Anna’s virtual studio – which is definitely not her kitchen – a collection of ‘isolation pods’ are being put together. What’s more, they’re not skimping on the guests either.

The latest episode, that’s live now, sees Anna chatting to pioneering Saudi director Haifaa al-Mansour and managing director of Modern Films Eve Gabereau for a special discussion of al-Mansour’s new feature The Perfect Candidate (that’s available on video on demand services now). Anna is also joined by British-Bahraini trumpet player and composer Yazz Ahmed, who dedicated an original piece to al-Mansour, to discuss the power of music in the feature.

The new episode’s guest critic, meanwhile, is writer and broadcaster Linda Marric (The Jewish Chronicle, HeyUGuys reviews editor). And between them all they review the latest digital releases, discuss the challenges facing the film industry, and the BFI Flare LGBTIQ+ film festival.
