Gloria Estefan is in negotiations to play Andy Garcia’s wife in the upcoming Father Of The Bride remake.

According to an exclusive from Deadline, Father Of The Bride remake has nabbed singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan for a lead role.

As the report on Deadline states Estefan was ecstatic when the team behind the film reached out to her.

‘A resounding YES was my answer to the invitation to join my good friend, the incredibly talented Andy Garcia, for this new and wonderfully warm and funny incarnation of the classic, Father Of The Bride! I’ve been a fan of director Gaz Alazraki since I saw his record-breaking comedy Nosotros Los Nobles and can’t wait to experience how he brings this amazing script by Matt Lopez to life’.

The 1991 film centered around Steve Martin’s George Banks, who struggles to cope with the emotional toll of his daughter getting married. This film however is also a remake of the original 1950 film, with the same name and storyline. The 1950s version was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Picture.

As we know, Alazraki’s version will follow the same story with Garcia’s father struggling with his daughter’s upcoming nuptials, though this time it will follow a Cuban American family offering a fresh perspective on the story.

Puerto Rican actress Adria Arjona (6 Underground) will play the bride, with more casting details still to come.

Hollywood never tires of remakes, but with a fresh spin on the story, is this one you’ll be looking out for?
