A sequel to Godzilla Vs Kong is definitely happening, with filming heading to Australia later this year on the next movie.

Its place in modern film history is assured by being the first movie to cross $100m at the US box office in the pandemic era. Furthermore, in the case of Godzilla Vs Kong, it also proved that a movie playing on a streaming service could still get people out to multiplexes. It remains one of Warner Bros’ few 2021 successes, in a year that proved tricky for the studio.

Understandably then, it’s pressing ahead with a direct sequel to the movie. Godzilla Vs Kong 2 is set to head to Australia later in the year where filming will begin on the new movie.

What’s unclear at the moment is who’s going to direct the new film. Adam Wingard had chatted about a possible sequel at the time of Godzilla Vs Kong’s release, but the director is also occupied with the small matter of Face/Off 2, and there’s a sporting change that’s going to be his priority.

Still, expect more details over the coming months. The sequel is definitely happening, it’s definitely filming this year, and that might just point to a release at the end of 2023. More on that as we hear it.
