Paramount returns to the world of Grease with the film Summer Lovin’ – and further productions may be on the way, too.

Once upon a time, Paramount Pictures tried to cash in on the success of the hit musical Grease, and in an era when sequels weren’t quite as commonplace, it gave the world Grease 2. Friends, Grease 2 was not a big success, and if there were any plans at all for a Grease 3, they ended around about then.

Fast forward to now, and Paramount has found a new way to prolong the franchise. It’s pressing ahead with a prequel film by the name of Summer Lovin’.

The film has been penned by Leah McKendrick, and the studio has now hired Brett Haley to direct the movie. And it’ll take the lyrics of the song ‘Summer Nights’ from the film and musical as the basis for the story.

No word on casting for this one yet, but should the film be successful, Paramount reportedly has its eye on more films in the franchise. Start those titles suggestions for further films in the comments, if you’re so inclined…
