If you’re a fan of the Halloween sequel that nobody likes to talk about, then the coming months might finally bring you some joy.

Halloween III: Season Of The Witch is one of those sequels that has largely been consigned to the forgotten recesses of history. Released in 1982, the film made the rather bold decision to omit Micheal Myers, the ‘face’ of the horror franchise in favour of a brand new story. Season Of The Witch has never been considered a classic by any means and the Halloween films would afterwards return to type for the next million or so movies, but it still stands out as an interesting and creative choice in horror franchise filmmaking, usually an exercise in diminishing repetition until audiences simply don’t care anymore.

Audiences did care about Season Of The Witch though. Well, some did and the film has gained a cult following over the years. The lack of a killer ‘monster’ in the form of Micheal Myers may have made it slightly more palatable for parents for example and as such, it would have served as the entry point to the Halloween series for many a child. Still, the series has never returned to the plotline of Halloween III, but news is emerging that fans of the film may be getting some more Silver Shamrock action in the near future.

Firstly, the movie’s director, Tommy Lee Wallace has said that a recent decision to attend conventions for the film has opened his eyes to the love that exists for Season Of The Witch. That in turn has led to the filmmaker being commissioned to write a book about the movie’s production. “I’d been resistant before because I didn’t have an accurate picture of what that meant,” explains Wallace, discussing his prior take on fan conventions. “I thought maybe this was just a bunch of bikers or something, I just didn’t get it… It just blew me away. The number of fans that came up, all of a sudden it was a renaissance for me and the beginning of a great deal of redemption around Halloween III. So, cut to the present and I’ve been asked to do a book of the making of Halloween III and all the things that have lead up to it and a little bit of history of what got me there.”

The book will release in October of this year to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary, and that’s not all we’ll be seeing of Halloween III. A fan-made sequel has been funded on crowdfunding platform, Indie GoGo and will be shooting this year. Here’s the synopsis:

Jessica Kelly, 24, is a recent mechanical engineering graduate working a dead end job until a mysteriously charming businessman shows up at her work telling her about a very odd inheritance. Conflicted when her own investigation leads her back to her family’s history, her life is about to change forever.
