Casting looks like it’s becoming a bit bothersome for Robert Eggers’ planned remake of Nosferatu – and you can cross Harry Styles off the list.

It’s been over a year since Robert Eggers wrapped filming on his upcoming viking saga, The Northman, which is set to feature Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgård. Due out next month, it’s a bloody revenge thriller that will surely mark some kind of change in tone for the director following 2019’s surreal and brilliant The Lighthouse. He also helmed 2015’s The Witch, Taylor-Joy’s breakthrough lead role.

Having now worked together on both The Witch and The Viking, it was announced last August announced that the duo could be rekindling their fruitful creative partnership once more with a remake of the 1922 silent horror classic, Nosferatu.

It’s a project that Eggers has reportedly been developing for some years and whilst Eggers is clearly keen to work with Taylor-Joy again, reports have emerged that he was also set to work with a new collaborator until pesky scheduling conflicts got in the way: none other than Harry Styles. The actor, who is also set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was briefly attached to the project before pandemic-induced delays to The Northmen put Nosferatu back. In turn, that forced Styles to leave the project.

The reports also mention that Taylor-Joy’s status on the project is yet to be confirmed, with her central involvement with the huge George Miller Mad Max prequel production Furiosa presumably meaning that her scheduling must be a tricky thing to nail down. Where this leaves Eggers’ Nosferatu we’re not sure, but we do know that The Northman will arrive in cinemas on 15th April. We’ll let you know more about Nosferatu as we hear it.
