A new rival to the Mission: Impossible and James Bond franchises is on the way, with Gal Gadot set to headline the series.

Skydance Media is looking to develop on the success of other recent films that have put a female-centric spin on the espionage thriller genre with Heart Of Stone, the first instalment of a planned franchise led by Gal Gadot. Deadline is reporting that Gadot has signed an ‘eight-figure deal’, positioning her within the upper echelons of the Hollywood pay structure.

Skydance has reportedly tapped Tom Harper to direct.

Harper’s previous credits include The Aeronauts, Wild Rose and the 2014 sequel to The Woman in Black.

The film is expected to be a globe-trotting action thriller and its writing team has form there. The project has been penned by Greg Rucka, whose first feature-length screenplay – Netflix’s The Old Guard – also featured female-led action heroics, set against a series of international locations. Equally excitingly, the script is co-written by Allison Schroeder, who was Oscar-nominated for her work on 2016’s Hidden Figures.

Gadot is certainly enjoying an extremely high profile at the moment, with Wonder Woman 1984 set to release this month, along with having just wrapped Red Notice for Netflix with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.

She’ll next appear in Kenneth Branagh’s Death On The Nile whilst back in October, Warner Bros announced it had won a heated auction to reunite the star with her Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins, to make a big-budget version of Cleopatra.
