Helen Mirren brings her talents to another action franchise in the form of DC Film’s Shazam! sequel, as she signs up for villain duties.
Whilst Helen Mirren has lent her name to many a classy project, she’s not opposed to rolling up her sleeves and pitching in with the occasional crowd-pleasing action blockbuster franchise too. She appeared in RED 2, the comic-book based action flick and has made several appearances in the wildly-popular Fast & Furious franchise too, including a turn in the much-delayed Fast & Furious 9, set to release this summer.
Now Mirren has boarded another action franchise in the form of DC Films’ Shazam! sequel, Fury Of The Gods.
Mirren is reportedly slated to play ‘the villain Hespera, the daughter of Atlas’ in the planned film which currently has a release date of June, 2023. Rachel Zegler, the star of Spielberg’s upcoming West Side Story has also taken on an unspecified role in the comic book sequel.
The first film in the series earned $366m at the box office, with the sequel soon announced. Dwayne Johnson is also working on a separate spin-off film centred around the Shazam! antagonist, Black Adam.
