Hellboy 3: Ron Perlman still wants his sequel

Ron Perlman as Hellboy

He might be in his 70s, but Ron Perlman hasn’t given up hope of going red for Hellboy again, in a Guillermo del Toro-directed Hellboy 3.

For many years, it was a regular question posted to both director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman: would the pair reunite for a third Hellboy movie? The two they made, in 2004 and 2008, were both very well received, even if they didn’t set the box office alight. But any hopes of a trilogy topper seemed to end when Lionsgate opted for a reboot that landed back in 2019. David Harbour took on the title role a few years’ back, for a film that wasn’t, in truth, brilliantly received.

Still, for Ron Perlman at least, the door to the role isn’t entirely shut. And in a new interview with The Independent, he’s made clear his current position on the project.

“Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 fucking years old”, he told the outlet. But he added that “we owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them, because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this fucking thing done”.

We’re certain Guillermo is a keen reader of Film Stories as well as The Independent, and as such, we’re happy to amplify the message. It’s a slim chance that the project will happen, but you never know…
