Adam Shankman is set to direct the long-in-gestation Hocus Pocus sequel.

After much speculation over the past few years, it’s now definite: a sequel to the Disney 1990s Halloween movie Hocus Pocus is pressing ahead.

The original movie was far from a flat-out hit on its original release, but pretty much every Halloween thereafter its audience has continued to grow. Back when DVDs were a thing, Disney shifted a lot of them where Hocus Pocus was concerned.

As such, the new film is set to bring back Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker (although their deals haven’t closed as of yet). A screenplay has been penned by Jen D’Angelo. And now we learn that Adam Shankman has been hired to direct the new film.

Shankman has been behind hits such as Hairspray and The Pacifier. He’s set to make the new Hocus Pocus for Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. Shankman is also still attached to make the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted.
