Christian Bale is leading the cast of The Pale Blue Eyes, and more information about the movie has come to light.

Scott Cooper’s recent horror movie Antlers earned fairly divisive reviews throughout its box office run, but this writer, for one, was deeply impressed with the film’s darkly oppressive mood, which elevated its sparse story into a powerful experience. In fact, I can’t think of many directors that we’d like to see bring that sense of resonant horror to a gothic tale focused on a young Edgar Allen Poe more than Antler’s director Scott Cooper, especially to see what the filmmaker can do when working with an existing, acclaimed gothic mystery. The tale is adapted from a 2006 historical fiction novel written by Louis Bayard.

Christian Bale’s involvement with the project already marked it out as another reason to be excited, but a swathe of other talented actors have now been revealed. Gillian Anderson, Robert Duvall, and Timothy Spall have all joined the ensemble, alongside the already-announced Bale and The Queen’s Gambit’s Harry Melling.

Netflix quickly snapped up the rights to this one for a reported $55m, a chunk of which seems to have gone onto an impressive ensemble cast which also includes Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Hadley Robinson, Joey Brooks, Brennan Cook, Gideon Glick, Fred Hechinger, Matt Helm, Steven Maier, and Charlie Tahan.

We’ll let you know more about this one as we hear it.
