Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern have signed up to star in a new film by Florian Zeller, writer and director of BAFTA-winning The Father.

On the back of two wins including Best Adapted Screenplay at this year’s BAFTAs, Zeller is adapting another of his stage works, The Son. Working with See-Saw Films (Ammonite, Widows), Zeller will reteam with writing partner Christopher Hampton to bring his second feature to the big screen, part of a trilogy, with the third part The Mother now looking likely for a future adaptation.

Unlike The Father which looks at dementia, The Son focuses on adolescent depression with Jackman and Dern playing divorced parents of the titular son.

The Father is nominated for 6 Oscars in this years ceremony, taking place on the 25th April. The Father is due for UK release on the 11th June 2021, though it has been screening in a number of festivals.
