The cast continues to round out for Harrison Ford’s final outing as Dr Jones, with Indiana Jones 5 landing Thomas Krestschmann.

The German actor Thomas Kretschmann is the latest name to sign up for the highly-anticipated Indiana Jones 5, set to be helmed. by Logan's James Mangold (following Steven Spielberg’s decision not to return to the director’s chair).

Kretschmann’s role is as yet unspecified, but he’ll be joining Indy himself Harrison Ford as he retires the character, alongside the already-announced Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen. As has also previously been announced,  John Williams is returning for the film’s score.

Krestschmann is perhaps most recognisable for playing Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, although he has also featured in many other roles including U-571, King Kong, Wanted, Westworld and Valkyrie.

Mangold has already hinted that we’ll see Indy visit New York in the 1960s but frankly, we don’t care where the film starts (although New York in the 1960s could see The NY World’s Fair, Woodstock or even Beatlemania make appearances,) as long as when he begins globe-trotting, we get to see the map with the travelling red line. As a youngster, that taught an entire generation more about geography than actual geography lessons which were usually rendered inferior by an unfortunate absence of Harrison Ford.

The as-yet untitled Indiana Jones 5 is set to release in July 2022.
