The fifth Insidious film is pressing ahead, and Patrick Wilson will be moving from in front of the camera to behind it for this one.

Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions company have growing form in giving actors their directing break. Joel Edgerton with The Gift and Zoe Lister-Jones with the newly-released The Craft: Legacy instantly spring to mind, and B J Novak currently has a film in production with the firm too.

Next up? That’d be Patrick Wilson, as it’s been announced that the co-star of the first two Insidious films is returning to direct the upcoming fifth movie in the series.

It won’t be called Insidious 5 but we’ll go with that for the moment. Wilson will helm the new film based on a script by Scott Teems. He in turn was working to a story that was put together by the man who started the franchise, Leigh Whannell.

This one’s set to follow the first two films by ten years (rather than following the prequel route of movies three and four).

No word yet on a release date, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t try and pull all this together in 2021. More as we hear it…
