Distribution rights and details of Benedict Cumberbatch’s new thriller, from director Dominic Cooke.

Debuting at the now-running Sundance Film Festival is the latest movie to be headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch, that goes by the name of Ironbark. The film is a spy thriller where Cumberbatch plays a civilian recruited by the government to assist in ending the Cuban Missile Crisis.

It comes from director Dominic Cooke – who recently helmed the film On Chesil Beach – and Tom O’Conner has penned the screenplay.

Rachel Brosnahan, Merab Ninidze, Jessie Buckley and Angus Wright are also in the ensemble.

The film has quickly been snapped up for distribution at Sundance too, following its premiere. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions now have the North American rights to the picture, and elsewhere in the world, FilmNation will be distributing (we understand Lionsgate has the movie here in the UK).

No word on a release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
