It’s been little secret that work has been underway on a biopic of The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings author J R R Tolkien. But now comes some firm news about the project, in particular, when to expect it.

Let’s not be one of those irritating news stories where you have to read a few hundred words of Google filler to get to the nub of it: the date in question is May 3rd 2019 in the UK.

The film will be called Tolkien, and Nicholas Hoult (pictured here in Jack The Giant Slayer) is taking on the title role. Joining him in the cast are Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi.

In the director’s chair is Dome Karukoski, working from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford.
