The Good Boys star is set to join Peter Dinklage in Legendary’s reimagining of the low budget 80s cult movie The Toxic Avenger.

We’ve known for a while that Legendary is prepping a Toxic Avenger reboot, with Peter Dinklage starring. Further casting has now been announced with the news that Jacob Tremblay, star of the brilliant Seth Rogen-produced Good Boys, has also joined the cast. Whilst it’s far too early to judge the tone that the Toxic Avenger reboot will be going for, Tremblay sports some serious dramatic acting chops as well as being able to do comedy, having starred opposite Brie Larson in 2015’s excellent Room, as well as starring in the 2017 hit, Wonder.

Toxic Avenger will be directed by Macon Blair, who helmed I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma, the original producers of the 1984 film, are also on board on the production team.

The story behind Toxic Avenger combines standard superhero origin elements, but with an environmental and subversive twist.

The synopsis reads: when a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.

We’d imagine that Dinklage’s Toxie will be accompanied by Tremblay as the aforementioned son, but that is yet to be confirmed. We’re certainly interested to see where this one goes as all of the creative decisions made so far seem promising. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
