Move over Blade: one or two faces behind the John Wick series are launching a new vampire action movie, with Jamie Foxx set to headline.

It seems that Netflix may well beat Marvel to the punch, when it comes to launching a vampire-hunting action spectacular at least. It’s been announced that Jamie Foxx will star in Day Shift, a film about a San Fernando Valley pool cleaner who spends his days checking water filtration units and getting leaves out of pools. By night though, he makes a real living hunting down the denizens of the undead.

Of particular interest are the creative personnel behind the camera here too. J.J. Perry, stunt co-ordinator on the John Wick films, as well as The Fate of the Furious and Bloodshot, will make his directorial debut whilst Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick trilogy (and a one-time stunt co-ordinator himself) will produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Interestingly, the script for this one was actually discovered as part of a competition. Writer Tyler Tice entered his screenplay into the Slamdance writing competition and won its grand prize. From there, interest snowballed and now Netflix is turning his competition entry into a major production.

Foxx is certainly a busy man, having been announced once again as Electro in the upcoming MCU Spider-man sequel whilst also working with Netflix on the upcoming thriller, They Cloned Tyrone, as well as a limited series for the streaming giant too. He also appears in Pixar’s upcoming Soul.

More news on this rather exciting project as we hear it.
