Jamie Vardy biopic: George MacKay reportedly offered lead role

Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy is to be the subject of an upcoming biopic – and George MacKay is in line to play him.

The story of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has been rumoured for a movie adaptation ever since he helped fire the club to the most unlikely Premiership title win a few years ago (with Vardy having being . And it now looks as though the project is moving forward.

The Cinema Spot is reporting that the brilliant George MacKay has been offered the role of Vardy in the movie, that’s currently being written by Eric Johnson and Paul Tamsay. It’s unclear as of yet if MacKay has actually taken the role, but he’s the top choice for it.

The movie, meanwhile, is set to be directed by Nima Nourizadeh.

One other piece of casting. The same outlet reports that Alicia Vikander is on the wishlist for the role of Rebekah Vardy (although still at the wishlist stage it seems). Wonder if there may be a spin-off movie there at some point in the future.

No word yet on when the film will move forward. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more, though.
