Rampage's Brad Peyton is to next turn his hand to a sci-fi movie, and Jennifer Lopez has signed up to take the lead role.
After signing a first-look deal with the streaming giant, Jennifer Lopez has wasted no time in lining up her first project with Netflix. Atlas is said to be a science-fiction thriller that follows ‘Atlas, a woman fighting for humanity in a future where an AI soldier has determined the only way to end war is to end humanity. To outthink this rogue AI, Atlas must work with the one thing she fears most — another AI.’
The project is part of a much wider creative remit that Lopez has agreed with Netflix that includes film, TV, scripted and unscripted material. All designed to give a platform to ‘support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers.’
Two other projects starring Lopez, The Mother and The Cipher have already been announced.
Brad Peyton, who directed the action movie Rampage will be helming and had this to say about the project: “I’m so honoured to be working with Jennifer, Elaine and the rest of the team at Nuyorican Productions along with our partners Joby and Tory at Safehouse, Having the chance to direct Jennifer in the title role of this movie is a dream come true, as I know she’ll bring the incredible strength, depth and authenticity we’ve all come to admire from her work. Furthermore, Jeff and I are so excited to be back working with Scott, Ori and the entire team at Netflix. They have been nothing short of amazing to work with and we are blessed to have the opportunity to make another movie on the service.”
Lopez will next be seen in a brace of comedies, Marry Me and Shotgun Wedding. We’ll bring you more news on Atlas as we hear it.
