Happy Death Day actor Jessica Rothe has stepped in to replace Samara Weaving in action thriller Boy Kills World.

Jessica Rothe will be playing the female lead in Boy Kills World. She replaces Ready or Not star Samara Weaving, who had to leave the revenge action film due to scheduling conflicts, according to The Hollywood Reporter

In this wacky and wonderful-sounding tale, Boy is a deaf-mute with an overactive imagination. When his family is murdered, he runs away into the jungle and meets a new mentor. He is taught to suppress his imagination and become a trained killer, so he can take revenge. It has been described as a “one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever-dream reality”.

Bill Skarsgård (known for playing Pennywise in It and its sequel) plays the titular role of Boy. Rothe’s character is an assassin named June 27, and martial arts master Yayan Ruhian (John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum) will be Boy’s mentor. Andrew Koji and Isaiah Mustafa will also co-star in the film.

Sam Raimi and Roy Lee are set to produce Boy Kills World, while Moritz Mohr directs. If Rothe, Raimi, and Skarsgård have one thing in common, it’s their work in horror, so you can imagine things may get a little bit gory in their latest film.

Boy Kills World enters production in South Africa on 14th February. More news as we hear it.
