Following their collaboration on the upcoming The Last Duel, Jodie Comer will be working with Ridley Scott on his next movie too.

We all know what a busy director Ridley Scott is. Having recently finished directing The Last Duel with Adam Driver, Matt Damon and Jodie Comer, the filmmaker is moving quickly onto House Of Gucci, his film about the murder of the head of the fashion house Gucci. Then, he’s planning to get the cameras rolling on his Napoleon epic, Kitbag, at some point in 2022. Plus, he was recently talking about making another Alien film too. Crikey.

Getting through a to-do list of that size takes some adroit workflow management skills and Scott has saved himself some time at least with regards to the casting process for Kitbagby re-recruiting Jodie Comer in the role of Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s first wife. Whilst Scott was apparently unfamiliar with Comer’s acclaimed turn in the TV drama Killing Eve, he clearly seems to be impressed by what he has seen whilst filming The Last Duel.

Set to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Comer’s character of Joséphine is a crucial one to the film’s narrative, with Scott saying “Napoleon is a man I’ve always been fascinated by. He came out of nowhere to rule everything — but all the while he was waging a romantic war with his adulterous wife Joséphine. He conquered the world to try to win her love, and when he couldn’t, he conquered it to destroy her, and destroyed himself in the process.”

Apple is financing the project, which reportedly has a nine-figure budget. We’ll bring you more casting news on this one as we hear it.
