John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo, and others join Universal’s Violent Night – a Christmas-action film also starring David Harbour.

Universal Pictures’ Violent Night has many new additions to its cast, according to The Hollywood ReporterJoining Stranger Things star David Harbour are John Leguizamo and Beverly D’Angelo, as well as Alex Hassel and Alexis Louder. The Christmas-action film is currently in production in Winnipeg.

87North Productions (formerly 87Eleven Productions) is producing the movie. The company is responsible for many recent action hits including Atomic Blonde, the Bob Odenkirk-led Nobody, and the John Wick films. When it comes to portraying violent nights, these producers certainly know what they’re doing.

Tommy Wirkola, director of Dead Snow and Netflix’s What Happened To Monday, will helm the project. The script is written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller – the screenwriters of Sonic The Hedgehog and its upcoming sequel.

Set on Christmas eve, the film focuses on a wealthy family whose members are in a constant power struggle. Their mansion is attacked by mercenaries, and it’s up to a disillusioned Santa (played by Harbour) to hand out lumps of coal in a bone-crunching way to save Christmas.

Leguizamo (the voice of Bruno in Disney’s Encanto) will be playing the head of the mercenaries, while D’Angelo is the wealthy family’s matriarch. Hassell (who appeared in The Tragedy Of Macbeth) is one of D’Angelo’s children, while Alexis Louder (Copshop) has been cast as his estranged wife.

It might be a bit soon to be discussing Christmas films, but this one sounds like a lot of fun. More news on Violent Night as we hear it.
