After months of speculation, director Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix finally confirm that Joker 2 is a thing.

Joker was one of the most talked about films of 2019. Sharply dividing opinion, rumours of a sequel have been swirling ever since.

Now, we finally have confirmation from the director himself. Todd Phillps posted a picture of the script to the sequel on his Instagram page, confirming that it will be called Joker: Folie A Deux, which is a phrase whose dictionary definition is ‘a delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association’. Very apt given that the Joker is well known as having, to put it mildly, unhealthy relationships with Harley Quinn and others.

The picture confirmed that Phillips, as well as directing, has again co-written the screenplay with Scott Silver.

Phoenix is also returning to the titular role.

No release date has yet been announced, but this flurry of news seems to indicate that production will begin soon.
