Joker holds off The Addams Family as it crosses £50m of business in the UK.

Not content with spending all of October since its release at the top of the UK box office, Joker has held off competition again over the past weekend to retain its crown.

The film added £2.4m to its British take in its fifth weekend to claim top spot, and in doing so, its straight run there becomes the longest of the year. Its haul in the UK alone stands at £51.6m.

This week it did hold off tough competition from The Addams Family, which picked up a further £2.2m of business over the weekend. The biggest newcomer though was Mike Flanagan’s film of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, and that’s had a quiet opening. It brought in £1.1m, adding to the £400,000 it’s made since its slightly earlier Halloween opening.

This coming weekend, the biggest competition for Joker comes from another Warner Bros release – The Good Liar – and Roland Emmerich’s incoming Midway. Plus The Irishman finally arrives in UK cinemas.

Still, don’t bet against Joker seizing a sixth week at the top…
