Just Cause games coming to the movies, director hired

Stuber director Michael Dowse is the man chosen to help bring the Just Cause videogames to the big screen – and an action franchise is being eyed.

The Just Cause series of videogames are amongst those that seem ripe for a movie version, not least because they draw on cinema themselves. The idea of each of the games is simple: to overthrow a dictator in whichever country protagonist Rico Rodriguez happens to land in. One of the big selling points of the game is the huge world that’s open to explore, and the amount of havoc you can wreak. And now that mania is being brought to the movies.

Derek Kolstad, who brought John Wick to life on the big screen, is penning the screenplay for the film, and he’s now being joined by director Michael Dowse. Dowse will helm the project, having previously directed the likes of Goon and Stuber.

The plan is for this to be a global action franchise, and we await news of casting with interest. No word yet on who’ll be taking the lead role, but more news as we get it.
