Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo’s new TV series completes its series one run with a very special guest – and we can but hope for a series two.

One of the positives that came out of lockdown, a bright light in a very difficult time for many, is that the BBC finally knuckled down and got Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode talking movies on the television. Not just movies, as it happens. Kermode & Mayo’s Home Entertainment Service saw the pair chuntering about television too.

The programme, the closest we’ve got to bringing the terrific witterings of their Radio Five Alive show to the screen, has been a real treat. It was commissioned and shot during lockdown, and six episodes were greenlit by BBC Four. The last of those six screens at 8.30pm tonight

Furthermore, a special guest to round the series off has been announced, with the news that Guillermo del Toro has recorded an interview for the last show of the series.

The show screens at 8.30pm tonight on BBC Four, and heads to the iPlayer service immediately afterwards. The question then remains as to whether the BBC will pull its finger out and commission series two. Fingers crossed…
